
At the heart of the Golf GLS TDI is one of Volkswagen’s most technically dvanced diesel automotive engines to date. The 1.9-liter turbocharged, in-line four-cylinder diesel engine develops 100 horsepower at 4,000 revolutions per minute and a maximum torque of 177 ft.-lbs. from 1,800 to 2,400 rpm.
The Golf GLS 2.0L offers a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine in place of the diesel engine. The Golf GL and GLS 2.0-liter engine produces 115 hp at 5,200 rpm and develops maximum torque of 122 ft.-lbs. at 2,600 rpm.
Front wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission are standard on all Golf models, with a four-speed automatic and floor mounted kick-down switch available as an option on GL and GLS 2.0L models. The Golf TDI model offers the option of a five-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® driver-selected gear shifting.
