2001 Volvo XC -- Volvo's first V70 Cross Country (XC) was introduced in 1997, but it just looked like a taller and more rugged version of their staple wagon. For 2001, the Cross Country has a completely new personality. While the top half keeps true to the curvy V70 look, the trim is distinctively tougher, the wheelbase is longer, it has a wider track, and all-wheel drive is employed. The 2001 XC feels like a finely tuned European luxury vehicle, but with 8.2 inches of ground clearance (more than many SUV's on the market) it can also effortlessly trek through mud, muck, and snow.
