The distinctive shape distinguishes it as unique among the world's great sports sedans. Functionally, as a sportswagon, it has no peer.

A seamless union of spirited performance, advanced safety engineering and extraordinary flexibility, the 850 family of sportswagons delivers exceptional driving pleasure and convenience.

Innovative design solutions and advanced performance technology are in evidence throughout. From the Sportswagon through the performance oriented Turbo to the exclusivity of the Platinum Limited Edition, all 850's offer a broad range of power and performance choices. All benefit from a sophisticated chassis design that translates into exceptional road holding and balanced performance.

Exciting to drive and eminently accommodating, the 1996 850 Sportswagons expand the opportunities for driving pleasure with stirring performance, exceptional comfort, advanced occupant protection and unmatched space utilization.

Like the 850 Sedan, the Sportswagon features state-of-the-art front-wheel-drive performance technology. Actually, unless you turn to look back, you wouldn't know you were driving a wagon.

Volvo likes to view the 850 Sportswagon as a spirited sports sedan with a cavernous trunk. The motoring press agrees.

Volvo offers the 850 Sportswagon in three levels of trim, including the GLT and Turbo packages. All deliver the unique fusion of driving pleasure, personal comfort and utility that distinguishes the Sportswagon from all other wagons.

With the rear seat folded forward, the cargo area in the Sportswagon expands to 67 cu. ft. (1.9 cubic meters). The 60/40 split rear seating dramatically enhances the ability to customize the allocation of seating and cargo area. Lift the rear door and it swings up and out of the way, while providing overhead protection in inclement weather. This opening affords easy access to the highly usable, illuminated, and fully carpeted cargo area.

Tie-down rings, lockable hidden storage for valuables, and rear seat headrests that fold away conveniently: small details that contribute to the total wagon concept that Volvo defined and which the 850 Sportswagon elevates to new heights in performance monitoring.
