Audi's Dynamic Trio

SEE ALSO: Audi Buyer's Guide

by Larkin Hill

The 1998 year looks Audi-rageous, stylish cars and a clever advertising campaign are guaranteed to catch attention. The introduction of the A6 in the 98 series completes the line. The zippy A4, sporty Avant, cool Cabriolet, sexy A6, and the sleek A8 make up the beautiful family. With smooth lines and distinctive curves, the 98 line is in top form. Audi exemplifies the next generation of German luxury cars; understated appearance coupled with superior performance. Currently Audi is the fastest growing luxury car in the United States, which is a welcomed turn around since the near disappearance in the early 80's. With the introduction of their A4 2.8 in 1995, the A8 duo and the A4 1.8 Turbo in 1996, and the Avant in 1997, Audi set forth on a mission to exceed their customer's expectations and repositioned itself in the luxury car market. The entire line has enjoyed impressive sales and a fresh image.

The 1998 introduction of the A6 will carry through Audi's quest in becoming the most "fully realized line of luxury performance cars available." I had the pleasure of experiencing Audi's finely crafted automobiles one sunny day in beautiful Santa Barbara on the official release, hosted by Audi of America. The adventure began at a hotel located on the beach, the entire Audi line was showcased in a flower and palm tree trimmed parking area. The numerous models were presented in spectacular colors: Laser Red, Cactus Green Mica, Brilliant Yellow, Pelican Blue Metallic, and a fabulous Aluminum Silver Metallic. All decorated the lot to formulate the ideal showroom.
