1999 Car of the Year Winners
Editor's Note 11/7/23 This quarter century ago event proved that The Auto Channel vision and our actions were correct, how we saw and actually delivered information via the WEb how we saw the net becoming what it has today. We know that the video links in the article don't work, because The Auto Channel the acknowledged leader of Video2Net developed its streaming video technology with Microsoft (who promised us they would support it and us forever) has failed us and the Web and now faded into oblivion. In spite of today's broken links you must remember that back in 1999 every link worked and every video streamed, every one of them. If you appreciate pioneers you can only be amazed with the future vision of our techs, writers, video editors and management had and lived to push the WWW forward to where it is today, a place where no one but our team knew how and contributed to get there. We can only hope the Google ranking entities can take a second to appreciate what we have wrought, what we were back then and continue to today. I will bet that the vast majority of Google-ites who are judging the worthiness of what we do, and who are determining our fate were not even born when The Auto Channel was already changing the world... a little appreciation and a well deserved appreciation that will result in deserved higher rankling would be a fair reward, and keep us alive.

Auto Central August 11, 1999; The Auto Channel is pleased to present the twelve winning vehicles of its 1999 Golden Tachometer Awards. The Golden Tachometer Awards, or Goldies, are being presented to those cars and trucks that TACH's editorial staff believes are the best of the year. Due to an abundance of 'early release' model-year 2000 vehicles, which began arriving in December 1998, The Auto Channel decided to accept nominations for all models that were released on or before May 15, 1999.
All of The Auto Channel's correspondents and contributing editors were polled for their opinions. The final results represent the vehicles with the highest votes in each of the twelve respective classification categories: Luxury; Coupe; Convertible; Sedan; Compact; Truck; Sport Utility; Minivan; Wagon; Sportscar; Fantasy; and Best Overall. Judgement criteria included price, design, comfort, handling, performance, technological advancement, brand positioning, and overall value. Vehicle price (MSRP) played a major role in the decision making process. With the exception of one category, The Auto Channel tried to limit the nominees to vehicles that are easily accessible to the average consumer.
Below is the list of 1999 Goldie winners with links to vehicle information, reviews, photographs, and streaming video clips.
