Isuzu For 2001 |
By Carey Russ |
At truck specialist Isuzu it's "so long, Amigo," as the company's smallest SUV becomes the Rodeo Sport. Many special models are offered, including an "Anniversary Edition" of both the flagship Trooper and mid-size Rodeo to commemorate Isuzu's 85th anniversary, and "Ironman" editions of the Rodeo, Rodeo Sport and VehiCROSS. Look for more interesting vehicles in the style of the radical VehiCROSS to come from Isuzu.
Rodeo Sport
The Amigo was basically a two-door Rodeo, and so has been renamed Rodeo Sport for 2001. It has aggressive, off-road-oriented styling and the rugged body-on-frame construction to back up its image. Available in hardtop and convertible styles, the Rodeo Sport comes with a choice of a 2.2-liter four-cylinder or 205-hp 3.2-liter V6 engines. Two- or four-wheel-drive drive trains are offered. The "Ironman" Edition has Isuzu's "Intelligent Suspension Control," (ISC) electronically-controlled semi-active suspension system.
VehiCROSS
There is nothing quite like the VehiCROSS, a combination of sports car and sport-utility based on a concept vehicle exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show a few years ago. A 215-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine and Isuzu's "Torque-On-Demand" 4WD system give it power and all-condition ability. Motocross-style shock absorbers with attached expansion chambers give it sport-level handling on all terrains. The interior features carbon fiber-look trim and genuine Recaro (tm) sport seats. An "Ironman" trim package is available.
Rodeo
The mid-size Rodeo was restyled last year, and enters 2001 with color changes and increased option package content. Three regular trim levels are offered, joined this year by an Anniversary Edition and Ironman Edition, both with distinctive paint and trim and the ISC suspension.
Trooper
The Trooper is again available with two- or four-wheel drive in three regular trim levels. The special Anniversary Edition features distinctive paint and trim and a full complement of luxury appointments.
