Attended New York University to learn English and Northern Westershire College near Birmingham, England, where he studied automotive engineering for 2 1/2 years.
Met wife, former Katie Boster of San Francisco, Calif. In 1981 on board a yacht in Monte Carlo harbor at a party during the Grand Prix of Monaco. She was a college student from San Diego State on vacation.
Skilled tennis player. Also plays golf and exercises to stay in shape for racing. Favorite work-08t is "spinning" -- a combination of stationary bike riding and aerobics. Work-out also includes weightlifting and aerobics.
Became naturalized American citizen between 1989 and 1990 racing seasons.

Mother is Maria Isaza Guerrero from Colombia. Father is Roberto S. Guerrero, originally from Argentina, who was a professional cyclist and represented Argentina in the 1948 Olympics in London. He moved to Colombia to be a trainer for Colombian national bicycle racing team.
