"This acquisition expands our broad range of services and products for the
dental market worldwide," said Donna Demerling, president - Timken Aerospace
and Super Precision business unit. Timken currently offers dental handpieces,
related products and repair services to dental practitioners through its
Handpiece Headquarters subsidiary based in Orange, Calif. Handpiece
Headquarters operates a global network of more than 30 service centers.
Score had sales of approximately $3.5 million in 2000. The company which
employs 25 people, will continue to operate from its Sanford, Fla. location.
"Score will extend our handpiece service line and will bring growth to the
entire network, including increased penetration in the international
marketplace, " adds Ms. Demerling. "Increasing use of heat sterilization of
dental instruments, which tends to break down the components, has resulted in
a greater need for handpiece repair globally."
Score is known for its E-Z Press III(TM) repair tool and E-Z Rebuild
Kit(TM), which enable dentists to fix their handpieces quickly and
conveniently in their own offices. Besides handpiece repair products, the
company also operates a handpiece repair service, similar to that of Handpiece
Headquarters, in which handpieces in need of repair are picked up at dentists'
offices, repaired and then returned after just a few days.
Score was established in 1994 by Henry Hardy and John Millonig, Jr. Under
Hardy's direction, the company and its products have rapidly developed to be
an accepted handpiece repair alternative by the dental community. Hardy will
continue to support sales growth initiatives. Score has been ranked three
times among the fastest growing companies in Florida by the University of
Florida.
Timken has been making bearings for dental handpieces for more than
40 years and is one of only a few bearing manufacturers that offers super
precision ball bearings capable of operating in a high-speed, dental handpiece
application.
    The Timken Company ( http://www.timken.com ) is a leading
international manufacturer of highly engineered bearings and alloy steels with
operations in 24 countries.
