BV Chassis Systems to Supply Solutions for the 2002 Saturn SUV

18 January 2001

BV Chassis Systems to Supply Modular Chassis Systems Solutions for the 2002 Saturn SUV
DETROIT, Jan. 17 BV Chassis Systems LLC -- a joint venture
between The Budd Company and Visteon Corporation -- has secured a
contract to supply Saturn Corporation's first sport-utility vehicle, the VUE,
with a fully independent rear suspension module system.
"We are excited to participate in the new Saturn SUV program and to apply
our chassis and structural expertise to the vehicle's modular design," said
Siegfried Buschmann, The Budd Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
"We also are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Saturn as they
introduce their new SUV to the market," said Michael Johnston, President and
Chief Operating Officer for Visteon Corporation. "By leveraging our resources
and chassis system expertise, we can provide our customers with revolutionary
modular design solutions."
To help Saturn Corporation create a different kind of sport-utility
vehicle, BV Chassis Systems will integrate a fully independent suspension
module system that will enhance both the ride and handling of Saturn's "first-
ever" sport-utility vehicle.
Budd and Visteon will collaboratively engineer and customize the chassis
modules and systems specifically for the new Saturn VUE. Budd supplies the
subframe, while Visteon will supply the control arms and stabilizer bars. The
two companies will collaborate to provide program management and systems
integration. The components will be integrated into a single modular system
that helps optimize the performance of the vehicle's chassis and rear
suspension.
All applicable components from Budd and Visteon will be shipped to the BV
Chassis Systems facility located in Columbia, Tenn., approximately 17 miles
from Saturn's assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., where BV Chassis will
provide in-line vehicle sequencing. The 2002 Saturn VUE will be in
dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year.
BV Chassis can provide suspension modules that are designed to integrate
various components such as driveline, steering, suspension and electronic
chassis controls with the vehicle's subframe, to deliver a complete front and
rear suspension module to the assembly plant. This process provides a high-
level of overall systems integration within the vehicle, and helps reduce
development time and cost, as well as build complexity at the assembly plant
for OEMs.
