CTS Wireless Components Announces New, Size-Reduced, High Performance 3.2 x 5mm Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator -- TCXO
ELKHART, Ind.--Jan. 16, 2001--CTS Corporation , today announced a new 3.2 x 5mm TCXO platform which combines, in one package, the benefits of smaller size, robust performance and cost efficiency. The 3.2 x 5mm TCXO, a product of CTS Wireless Components, constitutes a 54 percent reduction in size from industry standard 5 x 7mm TCXO packages! CTS Wireless Components is a global leader in wireless components design and manufacture, and a premier supplier of temperature compensated crystal oscillators (TCXOs) to the wireless communications industry."Our new 3.2 x 5mm TCXO is a prime example of how we are responding to manufacturers' critical need for downsized components that deliver uncompromising performance at a competitive price," stated James Hart, vice president and general manager for CTS Wireless Components. "This widely anticipated platform from CTS will help manufacturers of wireless handsets and other wireless products fit more functionality into slimmer, more ergonomically-oriented product designs that will meet growing worldwide consumer demand for smaller product packaging."
CTS' patented "H-package" construction technology makes the TCXO's small size possible. This unique technology allows for double-stacked component construction, enabling more components to fit into a smaller footprint. Through a cooperative technology relationship with Kyocera Corporation, who provided manufacturing expertise and currently licenses CTS' patented H-package technology, CTS was able to accelerate delivery of the 3.2 x 5mm TCXO to a global market for first quarter 2001 delivery.
The new CTS 3.2 x 5mm TCXO delivers superior performance to manufacturers of CDMA, TDMA and GSM cellular handsets. Specifically, it gives CDMA handset manufacturers tight frequency ranges and outstanding temperature control performance on the order of plus/minus 1 ppm (parts per million)--a critical characteristic for developing reliable cellular phones. Excellent phase noise performance ensures lower rates of data error, which means consumers get a higher quality end product, with clearer transmissions and reception. And, the TCXO's low current drain supports extended battery life.
A variety of wireless applications, in addition to cellular phones, are enhanced by the new TCXO's compact size and frequency stability over variable temperatures. Other applications include PDA (personal digital assistants), two-way pagers, PCMCIA cards and global positioning system (GPS) technology.
Product samples featuring the new 3.2 x 5mm package are now available. High-volume production shipments will begin during the first quarter of 2001.
