PricewaterhouseCoopers Automotive Shareholder Value Award Winners

15 January 2001

PricewaterhouseCoopers 2000 Automotive Shareholder Value Award Winners to be Announced January 17
DETROIT, Jan. 15 Four winners of the
PricewaterhouseCoopers 2000 Automotive Shareholder Value Awards will be
announced January 17 at the 25th annual Automotive News World Congress Gala
Dinner.
The distinguished awards -- presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, in
conjunction with Automotive News -- recognize the highest total shareholder
return for automotive vehicle manufacturers and suppliers over a one-year and
three-year period.
Selection of the winners was based on calculation of total shareholder
return as determined by the "PricewaterhouseCoopers Shareholder Value
Indices." According to Peter Brown, Automotive News managing editor, the
indices are the only "true" measure of shareholder value at the global level
for the automotive industry.
The PricewaterhouseCoopers Shareholder Value Indices take into account
both rises and falls in a company's share price, dividends, share buy backs
and new share issues, and provide an objective and reliable measure of
shareholder value for stock market listed companies.
"Increasing shareholder value is the key objective of all management in
the automotive industry and is a deserving of robust analysis," said Michael
J. Burwell, Automotive Transaction Services Leader for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
"Until recently, there has not been a reliable measure of shareholder
value at the global level for the industry."
Since January of 2000, the indices have been reported in Automotive News
on a quarterly basis. Developed specifically for the automotive sector, they
provide companies and industry analysts with precise information on relative
returns.
Last year's award winners included vehicle manufacturers Ford Motor
Company (three year period) and Toyota Motor Corporation (one year period);
automotive component suppliers GKN plc (three year) and NSK Limited (one
year); and automotive US retailers Sonic Automotive Inc. (two year) and Rush
Enterprises Inc. (one year).
Complete year-end results and Automotive Shareholder Award winners will be
announced in the January 15th issue of Automotive News and The Auto Channel.
