WestStart-CALSTART Seeks Blue Sky Award Nominations for 2000; Deadline for Nominations is Feb. 16, 2001
PASADENA, Calif.--Jan. 12, 2001-- WestStart-CALSTART is seeking nominations of individuals, companies or organizations for its Blue Sky Award(TM) and Charles R. Imbrecht Blue Sky Innovation Award for 2000.Presented annually, the Blue Sky Award is an international designation given for outstanding marketplace contributions to advanced, sustainable transportation that cleans the air, improves energy efficiency and helps reduce greenhouse emissions.
The Blue Sky Innovation Award was created in 1999 to recognize innovative actions taken to develop future markets for advanced, sustainable transportation. The Award was named in honor of Charles Imbrecht, former chairman of the California Energy Commission.
Prospective award recipients can be manufacturers, developers or users of advanced transportation technologies and services. Blue Sky Award recipients can be selected for bringing new vehicles or vehicle technology to the market; for significant commitment to the use of clean transportation options; for significant technology breakthroughs that affect the marketplace; or any combination of the above.
Blue Sky Innovation Award recipients can be selected for innovative actions in pushing a new technology, product or service toward the marketplace.
Past winners include: Ford Motor Company (1999), the U.S. Post Office (1998), Toyota (1997), General Motors (1996). Merit winners include: SunLine Transit Agency (1997); Santa Barbara MTD (1998); James Worden, Solectria (1997); Ballard Power Systems (1997); Alan Cocconi, AC Propulsion (1998); Paul MacCready, AeroVironment (1998); and Joe Ferguson, Advanced Vehicle Systems (1999).
The first recipient of the Blue Sky Innovation Award for 1999 was the California Fuel Cell Partnership for its innovative leadership in pushing fuel cell technology toward the marketplace.
