Autoliv and Melling Racing Enterprises Team for NASCARAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 12 Autoliv ASP Inc. the largest supplier of automotive safety systems, announced today that they have teamed with Melling Racing Enterprises in support of the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series. "Vehicle occupant protection is our only business," said Steve Fredin, vice president of engineering for Autoliv North America. "Our partnership with Melling is a natural extension of our priority to develop and manufacture the highest quality vehicle safety systems. We are excited to bring our design and test capabilities into this great sport." The sponsorship will provide Autoliv the opportunity to develop, validate and implement additional protective technologies. The rigorous conditions of NASCAR racing could also facilitate the development of new safety technologies for production vehicles. Autoliv develops and manufactures automotive safety systems for all major automotive manufacturers in the world. Together with its joint ventures, Autoliv has 80 facilities with nearly 30,000 employees in more than 30 vehicle producing countries. In addition, the company has eight technical centers around the world that contain 19 test tracks; more than any other automotive safety supplier. 1999 sales were $3.8 billion US, with net income of $200 million US.
