Yellow Cab of LA Announces Merger With LA Taxi Co-op
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10 Effective January 1, 2001, two of the
biggest names in the Los Angeles taxicab industry will become one. LA Taxi
and Yellow Cab are merging under the name of Yellow Cab, creating a 739
taxicab fleet that is the largest in the Western United States. The company
has also received the right to operate up to 80 of its vehicles under the
"Fiesta Taxi" name, a move designed to serve L.A.'s huge
Spanish-speaking community. These changes are the culmination of the City's
two-year effort to update the City's taxicab franchises and improve customer
service.
Yellow Cab is now poised to take advantage of Los Angeles' new "open city"
laws, and has the ability to respond quickly to customer needs in virtually
any area of the city.
"These new franchise rules make transportation very easy for our guests to
use Yellow Cab to and from business meetings in the West Side of the city and
elsewhere. This assures us that our guests will receive the same excellent
level of service they have always enjoyed with LA Taxi," says longtime LA Taxi
customer Michael Wente, Guest Services Manager of the downtown Biltmore Hotel.
This is especially important to the many business travelers who frequent Los
Angeles and often has a corporate account with Yellow Cab.
"The new 'open city' policy is one more example of LA's commitment to
insuring the quality of every visitor's experience," says Michael Collins,
Executive Vice President of the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"This New initiative in conjunction with regulations mandating credit card
acceptance in every taxi permitted in Los Angeles help make our City user
friendly to domestic and international travelers. The merger of LA Taxi with
Yellow Cab links two organizations that have each been leaders in launching
new expressions of customer service. The City's new regulations validate
Yellow Cab's strategy to make every visitor see the merits of returning to LA
again and again."
"Perception is everything," states Anthony Palmeri, President of Yellow
Cab Company, "in addition to our black tie dress code, we offer the most
extensive training in the industry including mandatory safety classes twice a
year for all drivers." Yellow Cab also employs four full-time road
supervisors to check taxis for cleanliness and to see that the drivers are in
uniform. Yellow Cab will not allow cars that are scratched or dented to be on
the road.
Courteous, well-trained drivers and the largest fleet of clean, safe
vehicles in Los Angeles make Yellow Cab now more than ever "the name to trust
since 1920."
