Woodward Receives Technology Development Supplier of the Year Award from Mercedes-Benz of Brazil

CAMPINAS, Brazil--Jan. 9, 2001--Woodward Governor Company announced today that Mercedes-Benz of Brazil has awarded them its Supplier Award of the Year in the Category of Technology Development. Woodward supplies Mercedes-Benz with the OH-1.2 control system for the M 366 LAG gas engine and the fuel components for the M 447 LAG gas engine, which are used in Mercedes-Benz heavy duty compressed natural gas (CNG) intercity buses.
Mercedes-Benz presents this award to those key suppliers who demonstrate the commitment to continuously improve on key technology measures and who focus on Quality, Delivery, Responsiveness and Cost Reduction.
Approximately 500 of the qualified suppliers from Mercedes-Benz were present at the ceremony when the Mercedes-Benz Board of Directors presented the award to just seven key suppliers. The ceremony was held at the Melia Hotel in Sao Paulo.
"We are very excited to have received this award," said Tim Loyd, Woodward General Manager, European Commercial Operations. "It's an indication that the teamwork between Woodward's US, Holland and Brazil operations to provide the highest possible level of customer commitment has been recognized by one of our valued customers."
"Woodward has been an active partner of our gas engine development since 1996, when they started work on our OH 1623 LG gas bus," said Carlos Hollnagel, Mercedes-Benz gas engine development manager. "Between 1998 and 2000, Woodward developed the control system manager for our M 366 LAG and fuel components for the M 447 LAG that we are exporting to Germany to be used in the EvoBus gas buses. The principal advantages of the Woodward system are that the engine can work with a broader range of fuel quality with less consumption, better drivability, lower emissions, simplified maintenance and at a lower cost."
