AMI Auto World Weekly and Eyes On Design/Detroit 2001 to Present Top Design Awards at North American International Auto Show

    DETROIT--Jan. 8, 2001--Recognizing major contributions to the world of automotive design, AMI Auto World Weekly and Eyes On Design/Detroit will honor the automotive designers who have created and the most significant automotive designs on display at the North American International Auto Show.
    The inaugural event will be held January 10th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Michigan. Over 500 automotive designers and executives from throughout the world will attend. The event benefits the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology and its programs to aid the visually impaired.
    Twenty-four automotive design awards will be handed out in 12 different design categories. One award will be presented to a design team in each category. Following the initial awards presentation, each winning team will honor a fellow team member with the "Most Significant Contributor Award." Judges are design professionals, suppliers to the design industry and academics.

    Eyes On Design/Detroit Awards will be presented in the following categories:

    --Most Significant Concept Car Design
    --Most Significant Production Car Design in four different
    categories: Compact, Mid-Size, Luxury and Personal Sport
    --Most Significant Concept Truck Design
    --Most Significant Production Truck Design in four different
    categories: SUV, Pickup, Multi-Purpose vehicle and
    Crossover
    --Most Significant Exhibit Design
    --Most Significant Fashion Statement - Awarded to a Fashion
    House

    Eyes on Design/Detroit is a program of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO) and an extension of the Eyes on Design Automotive Exhibit organized each year by the DIO to celebrate the world of automotive design. Eyes On Design/Detroit 2001 will be held in cooperation with Venture Industries, Wheel to Wheel/Techstar, ASC Incorporated, and Detroit Auto Dealers Association.
    Award presentations and brief remarks will be made by Dick Ruzzin, Eyes On Design/Detroit 2001 Chairman; William Jeanes, AMI Auto World Weekly's Editor in Chief; and Bill Scott, the Director of Interior Quality for General Motors.
    To commemorate the event AMI Auto World Weekly will include a special insert focused on automotive design, the technologies that shape it and the people with the vision to make it happen. The insert will also be circulated nationally through special distribution at auto shows.
    The award process will begin on the morning of January 8th at the North American International Auto Show. Twenty-one judges will evaluate the vehicle presentations searching for the visual allure that will attract new car buyers of today and tomorrow.
