Comworxx Looks To Clarity For Superior Human-Machine Voice Interaction

    Business Editors/Technology Writers

SARASOTA, Fla.--Jan. 5, 2001--Comworxx, Inc. (Comworxx) a Florida-based mobile telematics company, announced today that it has contracted Clarity LLC (www.clarityco.com) to optimize the performance of the voice interface that connects users with its Port-IT mobile communications offering. The importance of this interface is well known to Comworxx, whose parent company, Intelliworxx, Inc., is an experienced producer of voice-enabled mobile computers.
Clarity's Clear Voice Capture(TM) (CVC) technology targets the rapidly growing number of consumers using today's small, portable communications devices, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), cell phones, and mobile internet appliances. Users of such devices often find themselves in noisy environments where the performance of the voice interface may be affected. CVC locks in on the speaker's voice, freeing it from interfering background audio clutter including road noise, music, machinery, and other nearby voices, optimizing the user's ability to communicate with the device while preserving critical bandwidth. As such, it is a perfect complement to the Comworxx Port-IT, a PDA-based mobile telematics product that responds to customers' spoken requests for directions, traffic conditions, e-mail, and more.
"It is widely acknowledged that speech is the future of computing," stated Comworxx CEO Mike Jonas. "Clarity's product makes that goal a reality today for Port-IT users who rely on effective voice interaction with their in-vehicle systems for both information and safety."
Clarity President and CEO Raymond W. Gunn added, "Our objective is to become a leading provider of software products that improve the quality and efficiency of voice-activated human-machine interfaces. Accordingly, we are very excited about the prospect of using our CVC voice extraction technology to optimize PortIT's performance."
The Clarity announcement is the latest development in Comworxx' growing presence in the mobile telematics arena. Since its midyear inception, Comworxx has made significant investments in the technology and the infrastructure required to support these services following its launch at the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
