Jaguar Announces Record Year-End Sales in the United States
MAHWAH, N.J., Jan. 5 Jaguar North America is announcing
its best year ever with a new sales record for the United States of
43,728 cars sold. This represents a 25 percent increase over 1999 when Jaguar
sold 35,039 cars in the United States. For December, Jaguar recorded sales of
4,235 cars.
The S-TYPE sedan saw strong consumer demand through 2000. In its first
full year of sales, total sales increased 58 percent from 1999 totaling
24,507 cars sold. The Jaguar XK sports series enjoyed its best year ever in
the United States with sales up 9 percent over 1999 at 6,729 cars sold. XJ
sedans sales totaled 12,492 cars.
Jaguar sales in the United States also contributed towards Jaguar's
strongest year globally. For 2000, Jaguar sold 90,031 cars worldwide,
reflecting the growing global appeal of the Jaguar marque.
"This has been a great year for Jaguar in the United States. Not only did
we beat all previous sales records but the S-TYPE in particular has firmly
established itself as a major competitor in the premium sedan market," said
Mike O'Driscoll, president of Jaguar North America.
"As we move towards the launch of the new X-TYPE sports sedan later this
year, we are reaching a broader and younger customer base. Our XJR and XKR
supercharged models have enjoyed strong demand through 2000, reinforcing our
sporting heritage and new performance."
Sales of XJR and XKR exceeded 3,000 units, up over 50 percent on 1999
following the launch of the XKR and a new range of performance accessories.
