Ford Division on Track to Win Annual California Sales Leadership Race For 18th Consecutive Year
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4 Ford Division, for the 18th straight
year, is poised to capture the annual sales crown as the combined car and
truck sales leader among automotive divisions in California in calendar year
2000.
According to registration figures release by The Polk Company, Ford
Division dealers sold 346,896 cars and trucks in California through October
2000 -- 99,461 more units than second-place Toyota (247,435 units) and 154,164
more than third-place Chevrolet (192,732 units).
"Ford and its dealers could not be prouder since this is a testament to
the range and quality of our products," said Drew Atkinson, Ford Division
California regional sales manager. "California is a large and influential
market, and to be the top selling division is a significant accomplishment.
By offering versatile and appealing products such as the Focus, Escape,
Taurus, Mustang, Explorer and F-Series, we expect California consumers to once
again place Ford Division on top."
Ford F-Series continues as the best-selling vehicle in California, with
registrations up 16 percent over the same period last year and outselling its
nearest competitor, Chevrolet C/K, by 27,426 units.
Ford Ranger also continues as the best-selling compact pickup in the state
with registrations of 31,497.
Five of the state's best-selling vehicles are Ford Division products: F-
Series trucks, Explorer, Taurus, Expedition and Ranger. Taurus, Mustang and
Focus are among the 10 best-selling cars in the state. F-Series, Explorer,
Expedition and Ranger are among the 10 best-selling trucks.
"Ford Division is very optimistic about 2001 model year sales, especially
with the introduction of the all-new Escape," said Atkinson. "We have had a
remarkable 2000 sales year with a 15 percent increase over the same period
last year."
