Enhancements to the next generation NavMate(R) include: * A larger display screen, increased from 3.2" to 3.5" * Estimated time of arrival feature that allows the user to have a better idea of how long it will take to get to desired location * Shortest distance routing option allows the user to decide if he or she would prefer the quickest route (time), or the shortest route (miles) * Ability to select a route that avoids toll roads * Ability to "lay breadcrumbs" on the route's map, which allows drivers to quickly and accurately return to their starting point * A display has been redesigned to provide a high-tech, high-quality image * Additional memory to store customer address databases * Soft-touch buttons are backlit, which allow easier usage during nighttime driving * New mounting brackets allow for mounting alternatives on the instrument panel "As the demand for navigation products continues to grow in the aftermarket, it's important that we constantly update our portfolio with the latest products that offer consumers more functional and efficient systems," said David Peace, Vice President of Visteon Global Aftermarket Operations. According to industry data, the in-vehicle navigation industry will grow from $70 million in 1999 to $190 million in 2004. According to Peace, this increase signifies the growing demand for mobile navigation systems. How NavMate(R) Works: Wherever consumers want to go, NavMate(R) will help them stay on course with ease, security, safety and convenience. Visteon's new NavMate(R) provides the latest technology in CD-ROM based navigation systems. It utilizes in-vehicle, turn-by-turn digital mapping and easy-to-follow voice prompts and visual directions on a dash-mounted color screen, identifying locations anywhere in the continental United States. NavMate(R) locates and directs users to banks, restaurants, and thousands of other points of interest, whether the final destination is urban or suburban. Users simply input destination and NavMate(R) accurately charts the course to take. Through Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) software and Visteon's unique "dead reckoning" technology, NavMate(R) can pinpoint the location of the vehicle at all times, and will map the quickest path to get to the programmed destination. NavMate(R) can also identify the nearest ATM and gas station, should a minor emergency arise. Visteon engineers developed the special navigation software needed to run the on-board computer system, which includes a gyroscope, GPS receiver and CD- ROM drive. The system determines vehicle location by combining input from the GPS, gyroscope, and reverse sensor. The data is then matched against a map database.
