(PRNewsFoto)[AG] TROY, MI USA 10/19/2000LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 Delphi Automotive Systems announces the commercial availability of its Communiport(R) Rear-Seat Entertainment System, to be featured at the 2001 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The portable system shown at CES will be sold to automotive manufacturers, their respective dealers, and will be offered to the general public via an online ordering system on the company's internet site at http://www.delphiauto.com/communiport in early February 2001. The retail price for the Communiport(R) Rear Seat Entertainment System is $1495.00 and orders will be shipped in February. Other versions of the system will be marketed to wholesale and retail customers through other distribution channels in the near future, with details to be announced at a later date. Delphi's Communiport(R) Rear-Seat Entertainment System fits on top of a rear bench seat to offer the ultimate flexibility and portability for DVD- based entertainment applications. "The Communiport Rear-Seat Entertainment System allows families to add a new dimension to their travel experience," said Robert W. Schumacher, Delphi's general director of Mobile MultiMedia. Rear seat passengers, especially children, are kept occupied, happy and content." The Communiport Rear-Seat Entertainment System allows rear-seat passengers to play Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) movies or plug-in game platforms. The Delphi system supplies AC line power for games via an integrated 120-volt inverter with an easy access power cord. The system is designed for easy installation and removal and is so versatile that it fits almost any car or truck with a rear seat regardless of size. The unit will be available in either graphite or beige color. The entertainment system can be installed in seconds by securing the console unit with the seat belt for the rear middle seat position and plugging the power cable into the lighter power source. A 7-inch diagonal color display flips up from the console to show movies or games. The 21- by 14- by 10-inch high console also provides storage space to keep headphones, game cartridges, DVDs and other accessories. The audio/video control panel is designed to prevent damage and contains recessed headphone jacks, volume controls and game inputs. The DVD player accommodates DVD videos as well as standard music CDs. The entertainment system is compatible with a variety of video game stations and uses standard audio and video inputs to the A/V control board. The DVD player also offers front slot loading for convenience. Delphi also plans to market a flip-down visor screen version of the system to broaden its rear-seat entertainment system line-up. The Communiport(R) Rear-Seat Entertainment System is one of the new innovative products in the Delphi portfolio that addresses consumer demand for personalized entertainment, convenience and mobile productivity for their vehicles.
