Kermit Whitfield Joins Automotive Manufacturing & Production Magazine As Senior Associate Editor
    PLYMOUTH, Mich., Jan. 4 Kermit Whitfield has joined
Automotive Manufacturing & Production (AM&P) magazine as senior associate
editor.  Whitfield is filling a new position with responsibilities for
developing, researching and writing monthly feature articles for AM&P.
    Whitfield, 36, has more than 12 years of experience in the automotive
industry working in both public relations and new model development positions
within Honda Motor Company in Japan and Honda of America Manufacturing.
    "Kermit brings a unique, insider's perspective to the magazine's editorial
coverage," said Rick Kline, Jr., publisher of Automotive Manufacturing &
Production.  "Working for an automotive manufacturer in both the U.S. and
Japan has given him a perspective that few journalists ever get to
experience."
    Most recently, Whitfield worked in the Competitiveness Promotion Center
for Honda of America Manufacturing in Marysville, Ohio.  He served in this
capacity since 1996, where he was responsible for conducting market research
on competitor vehicles and coordinating total cost and profit data for new
automobile and light truck models.
    From 1991 through 1996, Whitfield was a media coordinator for Honda of
America Manufacturing.  He was the chief liaison to Japanese media while
serving as a company spokesperson.  In addition, he served a variety of public
relations roles ranging from executive speech writing to press tours.
    Before moving to the United States in 1991, Whitfield worked for Honda
Motor Company in Tokyo, Japan since 1989 as a media liaison in the
International Public Relations area.  Besides his media relations
responsibilities, Whitfield co-developed and wrote Honda's first international
English-language internal magazine.
    Whitfield speaks Japanese and studied Japanese language and culture at
Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
History from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
    He is a member of the Society of Automotive Analysts.
