Porsche Reports December U.S. Sales; 2000 Sales Up By 7.4 Percent, But Shipping Delay, Weather Cause Dec. DropATLANTA, Jan. 3, Porsche Cars North America, importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars in the United States, today announced year-end sales and stock figures. Calendar year-to-date sales are up by 7.4 percent over 1999. Retail sales for the month of December totaled 1493 cars, a decrease of 25 percent over December 1999. The December decrease resulted from two main factors: More than 900 Porsches on two vessels in route to the port facility in Charleston, S.C., were delayed by severe weather in the North Atlantic and one ship's mechanical problems. In addition, severe weather in the Northeast delayed deliveries to many Porsche dealers. Of the more than 900 Porsches that arrived in late December at the port facility, most are pre-sold. With a dealer supply of 21 days, Porsche continues to have the lowest inventories in the industry, an indicator of continued strong demand for its cars.
