Lubricant Packaging Study Hits Home
    LITTLE FALLS, N.J., Jan. 3 Kline & Company's comments in a
recent press release about how packaging will impact the lubricants business
have drawn a high level of attention from lubricant marketers and packagers on
a global level. There has been strong agreement that packaging will be a
major issue in lubricants over the next five years and that Kline & Company's
timing of its study, THE OUTLOOK FOR PACKAGING IN LUBRICANTS, 2000 could not
be better.
According to Lynn Gillette, sales and marketing manager at Kline, interest
in THE OUTLOOK FOR PACKAGING IN LUBRICANTS, 2000 has been very high, and it is
clear that "Lubricant marketers and packagers are well aware of the power of
packaging." Gillette also notes, however, that most concur with statements
made by Thomas F. Glenn in the news release of December 21, 2000, Lubricant
Packaging Sells, that we have only just begun to see what the industry can do
with innovative, functional, and visually appealing package designs, and that
the next five years of lubricant packaging will be very exciting.
Furthermore, it is becoming increasing difficult to differentiate lubricants
based on the products themselves, and this is driving the industry to look
more at what the lubricant is in than what is in the lubricant.
Based on the number and nature of inquiries Kline & Company is receiving
about THE OUTLOOK FOR PACKAGING IN LUBRICANTS, 2000, Gillette notes that
"Lubricant marketers and packagers are hungry for information on what types of
packaging sell, particularly in commercial and industrial accounts." She also
states that "Major oil companies and packagers tend to be somewhat insulated
from the wants and needs of these accounts, due to the role of distributors in
the value chain."
