Battery Technology and Production Process Seen as Significant Cost-Cutters for Electric Vehicles in 2001
NEW YORK, Jan. 2 According to a survey conducted by
industry publication "Electric Vehicle Progress," industry leaders agree that
advanced batteries and lower production costs will provide the most important
breakthroughs in the improvement, development and commercialization of
electric and hybrid vehicles in 2001.
The survey also showed that the demand for new vehicles will come from
primarily three markets: business complex/resort/gated community; off-road
vehicles such as airport ground support equipment; and urban travel.
Experts were also asked to rate the market feasibility of current
vehicles. Hybrid electric vehicles were perceived to be the most feasible,
with battery electric vehicles second and fuel cell vehicles third.
