Battery Technology and Production Process Seen as Significant Cost-Cutters for Electric Vehicles in 2001NEW YORK, Jan. 2 According to a survey conducted by industry publication "Electric Vehicle Progress," industry leaders agree that advanced batteries and lower production costs will provide the most important breakthroughs in the improvement, development and commercialization of electric and hybrid vehicles in 2001. The survey also showed that the demand for new vehicles will come from primarily three markets: business complex/resort/gated community; off-road vehicles such as airport ground support equipment; and urban travel. Experts were also asked to rate the market feasibility of current vehicles. Hybrid electric vehicles were perceived to be the most feasible, with battery electric vehicles second and fuel cell vehicles third.
