Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 22 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 298,978 units,
down from the 338,548 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 17,734,125 vehicles, up 0.7 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 216,920 vehicles this
week, a decrease of 12.0 percent from the 246,588 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
12,846,901 units, down 1.4 percent from the 13,024,137 vehicles built in like-
1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 44,361, a 22.8
percent decrease from the 57,462 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,971,208 units, down
2.6 percent compared to the 3,049,649 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.7 percent; Ford Motor Co., 30.7 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 7.7 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.3
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.1 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.2
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.6 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 2.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.3 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.9 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0 percent; and
other manufacturers, 1.9 percent.
