Navox Awarded Key First Patent for its SVD Voice-Data Communication Technology Over Wireless Channels

    MONTREAL--Dec. 18, 2000--NAVOX

Enables real simultaneous voice and data telematics
    services across multiple cellular technologies

Navox Corporation, a subsidiary of C-MAC Industries Inc., today announced the approval of its first patent application involving simultaneous transmission of data and voice over digital wireless channels. This patent provides the intellectual property foundation for Navox technology licensing plans into the wireless data market, which includes but is not limited to, wireless location, telematics, vehicle/asset tracking and location based services in general.
This patent (No. 6,140,956) focuses on the simultaneous, and non-intrusive, transmission of data and voice over wireless voice channels. The patent's sixteen claims encompass a number of techniques and applications delivered through the voice channel that can support many data and/or voice applications where both are equally important to provide a high quality service.
Navox is working with a number of industry leaders to build the next generation location based services systems. Navox unique SVD technology is easily implementable both in mobile devices and in call centers and, when complemented by Navox other modem products, can support a large number of Telematics applications.
"The voice channel represents the only common denominator in the complex tandem wireline-wireless communication infrastructure; it is also the largest consumer communication infrastructure. Our unique technology truly bridges the gap between voice and data and enables advanced and transparent data and voice services over this infrastructure," said Denis Marchand, president and CEO of Navox. He adds: "We are agressively supporting our customers with reference designs, test and development systems and call center modem bank hardware and software."
This issuance is part of Navox's considerable portfolio of filed, pending patents currently under review by the Patent and Trademark Office. The attorneys for this patent were Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear, from Newport Beach, California.
