NTSB Chairman to Speak at Child Passenger Safety Conference; Event Will be One of His Last Official Acts Before January 18 Resignation
RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 18 One of the last official acts of
outgoing National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Jim Hall will be to
speak at the North Carolina Child Passenger Safety Conference in January.
Hall, who today announced that he would step down as chairman on
January 18, will deliver the opening address at the conference on January 17.
The event will be held at the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel in Greensboro.
"We are gratified that Chairman Hall will spend one of his final days in
office with us at this important event," said Joe Parker, director of the
Governor's Highway Safety Program, which is presenting the conference. "He
has taken a very strong position on the need to buckle up children, to keep
them away from air bags, and to increase the use of booster seats. I know his
remarks will have a powerful effect on child passenger safety advocates in
North Carolina."
The North Carolina Child Passenger Safety Conference will feature numerous
state and national leaders in the field of child passenger safety. Joining
Hall will be officials of the National Safety Council, the National SAFE KIDS
Campaign, and North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long.
About 200 child passenger safety advocates, law enforcement officers and
health professionals are expected to attend the conference, which will begin
with an optional two-day child passenger safety training class.
