Ford and Toyota to Join as Global Auto Demand Slows Says just-auto.com Editor
    LONDON, Dec. 18 http://www.just-auto.com -- 2001 is going
to be a tough year for the automotive industry thanks to a poor financial
outlook and a downturn in volume.
In his editorial comment at http://just-
auto.com/editorial_detail.asp?id=30 David Leggett, managing editor of
just-auto.com says, "Higher fuel prices and slowing economies are cooling
demand and the classic 'replacement cycle' dip to new car sales in North
America and Western Europe looks inevitable."
The slowing of the industry is also seen to be the cause of new alliances.
Ford and Toyota are set to work together in certain areas to reduce costs.
