Textron Names Lord Powell to Board of Directors

    PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Dec. 14, 2000--Textron Inc. announced today that Charles Powell (Lord Powell of Bayswater) will join its Board of Directors. Lord Powell is the former Private Secretary and foreign affairs and defense adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Prime Minister John Major.
    For the past four years, Powell has served on Textron's International Advisory Council, a group of 14 political and business leaders from 12 countries who advise Textron on a range of global business issues. "Lord Powell's extensive international business and national security experience, coupled with his familiarity with Textron's businesses, will make him a tremendous asset to Textron's board of directors," said Textron Chairman and CEO Lewis B. Campbell.
    Lord Powell serves as a board member of several major international companies, including Louis-Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH), Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Phillips Fine Art Auctioneers (of which he is chairman), British Mediterranean Airways and Jardine Matheson Holdings, Ltd., a post which he has held since 1992, but will relinquish at the end of this year. He also serves on the European Advisory Boards of Rolls-Royce and Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst, as well as the International Advisory Board of Barrick Gold. Lord Powell holds a number of other positions, including president of the China-Britain Business Council, chairman of the Singapore-British Business Council and chairman of the Trustees of the Oxford University Business School.
