Edmunds.com's Automotive Wireless Web Site Wins Top Honors For Comparative Shopping
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec. 14 Edmunds.com, Inc.,
http://www.edmunds.com, the Web's leading consumer resource for unbiased automotive
information, yesterday was awarded a top honor by members of the wireless
industry. Edmunds.com's mobile offering, Edmunds2Go, received a WAPPY Award
as the best comparative shopping site on the wireless Web. The WAPPY Awards,
presented by Cellmania, recognize the industry's best mobile Web applications
selected from a pool of over 10,000 sites in various categories. Finalists in
other categories include CDNOW Mobile, Amazon.com, Ebay, Ameritrade, E*Trade,
and Zagat.com.
Edmunds2Go offers Edmunds.com True Market Value(SM) pricing, reviews and
other useful consumer automotive information via the wireless Web, allowing
shoppers to take these valuable tools with them to the showroom floor.
Edmunds2Go also offers a dealer locator, enhancing the usefulness of the site
for car shoppers across the country. Edmunds.com's wireless web site is
accessible via AT&T Wireless Services, Sprint PCS Wireless Web, Nextel Online
Wireless Internet Services, OmniSky Wireless and Palm VII. Customers of other
mobile phone companies can access the site by entering mobile.edmunds.com on
any web-enabled cell phone.
"Wireless access to automotive information is a useful tool for anyone in
a car dealership," remarks Joe LaMuraglia, Director of Wireless Initiatives
for Edmunds.com, who accepted the award for the company. "Car shoppers can
check pricing and reviews on a vehicle they may not have considered before
entering a showroom, and they certainly appreciate being able to refer to the
wireless dealer locator while standing in a dealership if they feel the need
to find alternative salespeople to interact with."
The awards were presented on Wednesday at the Mobile Commerce Conference
& Expo in New York. Judges evaluated nominees based on several criteria,
including accessibility, navigability, relevance of content or product
offerings, and overall design. The panel of judges for this year's WAPPY
Awards included representatives from the wireless industry such as Motorola,
AT&T Wireless, The Standard, and Sun Microsystems among others.
