Laser Express Implements Profit Tools Intermodal Software
CHICAGO--Dec. 14, 2000--Intermodal trucking company Laser Express, Inc. has selected dispatch and billing software from Profit Tools, Inc. of Newmarket, NH. Laser provides drayage services for import/export shippers, operating a fleet of 40 tractors out of facilities in Cicero, IL and Tomahawk, WI. To gain efficiency and grow the business, Laser began evaluating operations software in'99, and purchased Profit Tools in June of 2000."The biggest benefit to me is availability of information, right now, to help me make business decisions," said President Bruce A. Dahnke. "We pride ourselves in being reliable and on time. With Profit Tools we're not dependant upon human memory, interpersonal communications and digging through paperwork to know what we have to do to stay on track. Laser uses Profit Tools for dispatch, billing, driver settlements, and equipment tracking. Intermodal drayage requires carriers to handle leased equipment--ocean containers and rail boxes--that are owned by steamship or rail lines. Fees are levied if the equipment is not returned on time, which makes accurate management a top priority. "Profit Tools helps us evaluate the impact of the various free time and per-diem rate schedules for each of the lines we work with in advance," Dahnke said, "which helps us plan effectively."
Handling primarily door-to-ramp and ramp-to-door shipments, Laser serves the Chicago Market without terminal facilities. They work with a broad customer base of Intermodal marketing companies (IMCs) and also work directly with the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads to provide terminal service. Because of their on-time performance, Laser is rated as a Premier On-Time Carrier in the Chicagoland Intermodal market by a number of IMCs.
