BEI Duncan Electronics Introduces Dual Output, Low-Profile Rotary Sensor with Improved Sealing for Variety of Industrial Applications

TUSTIN, Calif.--Dec. 13, 2000--BEI Duncan Electronics has introduced a new, dual output, low-profile rotary sensor that can be easily integrated into space-conscious applications requiring installation simplicity, long life and repeatability.
Measuring only 16.2 mm in height with a maximum connector receptacle height of just 25.9 mm, the streamlined design offers a 30% reduction over previous model profiles, allowing installation into confined areas typically associated with such applications as automotive, heavy equipment, marine and industrial controls.
The 9850 Gen II Series Sensors are available in 12 standard model configurations including 3-pin, single-output units (120 degrees and 180 degrees shaft rotation), and 6-pin dual-output styles (120 degrees shaft rotation). Dual-output models now introduce two sensor redundancy along with significant system and packaging cost savings. Standard round or slotted mounting holes on 38 mm centers assure alignment of male key drives.
Plug-in simplicity and sealed connector contact is assured with integral right-angle connector receptacles designed to accept industry-standard Metri-Pack(TM) connectors. An optional housing o-ring provides further protection from fluid contamination.
Manufactured for optimal cost-economies, the 9850 Gen II Series offers simple yet durable design strengths including high performance reliability and low installation and interconnection costs, lending it to cost-sensitive applications. The new 9850 Gen II Series is priced at $18 each in 100-piece quantities.
The new Gen II series incorporates all the inherent features well proven and established with the original 9800 Sensor Series, including exceptional durability in under-hood and other heavy equipment applications. Standard features of the 9850 Gen II Series Sensor modules include use of reliable conductive plastic resistive technology and high temperature, and stable housing materials.
Standard resistance is 5,000 ohms +/-20% (available in 1K, 4K and 10K ohm versions), +/-2.0% standard linearity, and a mechanical life rated at 1 million full cycles and 5 million dither cycles. Designed to operate in demanding environments, the unit is moisture resistant to 95% humidity at 38 degrees C.
Other outstanding features include accurate readings over a temperature range of -40 degrees C to 135 degrees C; 50Gs shock and 15Gs vibration resistance (50-1,000Hz). Most specifications can be altered to meet specific customer applications. Units are manufactured in the company's ISO9001 and QS9000 certified facilities and processes.
"The 9850 Gen II series offers more flexibility than ever for designers seeking a dual output, small, high performance sensor," said Paul Cain, BEI Duncan Marketing and Program Manager. "With pricing that is extremely competitive across the board, the Gen II series offers value-added functionality and turnkey installation while lowering total system costs."
The 9850 Gen II Series is available with a wide range of value-added options including an integrated switch function, user-specific electrical/mechanical rotation and mounting hole inserts for easy mating with in-house mounting requirements.
