Lee Sandler Re-Appointed to U.S. Treasury Advisory Committee On Commercial Operations of the United States Customs Service

MIAMI--Dec. 13, 2000--Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence H. Summers recently announced the re-appointment of Lee Sandler, senior member of the law firm of Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., to the Treasury Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of the United States Customs Service for a second two-year term. This twenty-member committee is the official private sector advisory group on Customs Service commercial operations, providing direct input from the business community to the Department of the Treasury on such issues as Customs policies, procedures and budget allocations, and the commitment of resources to facilitate trade in the Ports.
Sandler established Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., in 1977, as South Florida's first firm to concentrate its practice in customs and international trade. Since 1969, his legal practice has focused on the regulation of international trade. For seven years as a U.S. Department of Justice attorney, he defended customs decisions on such issues as the appraisement, tariff classification and admissibility of imported merchandise. For over twenty-five years in private practice, he has advised companies and challenged government decisions on a wider range of issues affecting imported and exported goods, including the enforcement of customs, food & drug, agriculture, EPA, DOT, export control, trademark and copyright laws; and eligibility for CBI, NAFTA, or foreign-assembly programs.
Sandler has been elected to three terms on the Board of the American Association of Exporters and Importers and serves as General Counsel to the Florida Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association and the Customs Bond Committee of the American Surety Association. He also chairs the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Special Committee on International Cargo, a monthly forum that brings together the business community with all federal agencies affecting international cargo movement (Customs, Food & Drug, Agriculture, Fish and Wildlife, etc.).
