Unigraphics Solutions and Jaguar Racing Sign Multi-Million Dollar Agreement To Enhance Collaborative Product Development
Three-year Contract Includes Licenses of Unigraphics, iMAN and ProductVision

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 12 Unigraphics Solutions Inc.
today announces it has signed a multi-million dollar, three-year software and
services contract to supply Jaguar Racing with an integrated system to enhance
collaborative product development. The implementation includes Unigraphics --
UGS' high-end, fully integrated CAD/CAM/CAE software suite, iMAN -- its
Internet-centric product content management application and ProductVision --
the company's enterprise visualization solution. The contract will enable
UK-based Jaguar Racing to work collaboratively within its team, as well as
with outside suppliers on the development and manufacturing of cars in a
totally digital environment.
"This agreement marks an important step forward in the Ford Motor
Company's ambitions in Formula 1 Grand Prix motor racing," says Neil Ressler,
chairman of Jaguar Racing. "Both Jaguar Racing and Ford's high-performance
engines manufacturer, Cosworth Racing, which supplies the power units for
Jaguar's Racing Formula 1 cars, have relied upon Unigraphics Solutions'
product development software over recent years and have been impressed with
its advanced capabilities. This new agreement will ensure continuity over the
next three Grand Prix seasons as Jaguar Racing, using Ford engines developed
by Cosworth, bids for success in Formula 1 Grand Prix racing."
Under the terms of the contract, Unigraphics Solutions will provide Jaguar
Racing with more than 50 licenses of Unigraphics to enable the Formula 1 team
to develop and manufacture its cars for future Grand Prix seasons in a totally
digital environment. The implementation will also allow design engineers to
work concurrently on different aspects of the car, while iMAN manages the
effect of individual design changes. In addition, ProductVision will extend
the design collaboration environment to include the entire Jaguar Racing
community, even those unfamiliar with Unigraphics. By using their desktop PCs
and the standard web browser within ProductVision, people in all departments
such as purchasing or marketing, are able to use the Internet to access, view
and mark-up models and drawings, as well as product information.
"With a lead time of no more than four to five months between the end of
one Grand Prix season and the start of the next, it is essential that we make
the most of every minute we have in developing next season's car," says Steve
Nevey, Jaguar Racing's computer-aided engineering manager. "The Unigraphics
Solutions system helps us enormously in this respect by making communication
between the different engineering groups involved in the development and
manufacturing of a Formula 1 car quick and easy through the latest Web-based
technologies. Further, because the system integrates the design, engineering
and manufacturing processes and is underpinned by the iMAN product content
management system, everyone has access to and can be sure they are always
working with the latest design information."
"We are proud to be associated with Jaguar Racing," says Jim Duncan, vice
president of Europe, Unigraphics Solutions. "The design and manufacturing of
a winning Formula 1 Grand Prix racing car is one of the most demanding and
rewarding engineering tasks that a group of people can undertake. We look
forward to being part of Jaguar Racing's endeavors."
