France to Blame for the Slump of West European Car Sales? just-auto.com ReportsLONDON, Dec. 11 http://just-auto.com -- The West European economy is slowing and the car market is evidently one of the victims. The LMC report at http://just-auto.com/features_detail.asp?art=397 says that the sharp decline in the French car market is one of the main reasons for the overall deterioration. French sales for November are down 4% on the same period last year with the second part of 2000 showing a downward trend. UK sales however, tell a different story. 162,572 new cars were bought from dealers in the UK during November - that is 13% higher than the figures for the same time in 1999. Although sales in Italy are also up on the same time last year, the selling rate has slipped as the year has progressed.
