ZAP Receives Second Patent for Electric ScooterSEBASTOPOL, Calif., Dec. 11 The U.S. Patent Office has allowed ZAPWORLD.COM patent # D,433,718 on their folding electric scooter, known as the ZAPPY(R). The patent is the second granted to the California-based company on its electric scooter. Since the ZAPPY's introduction in 1997, ZAPWORLD.COM (ZAP) says that it has delivered over 30,000 units of the electric scooter. A manufacturer of electric bicycles, sea scooters, motorcycles and other vehicles, ZAP says the ZAPPY has become its most popular product and tripled production this year to keep up with orders. The Company now has 13 patents in electric transportation and ZAP CEO Gary Starr says the ZAPPY(R) has helped established ZAP as a leader in electric transportation innovation. "People buy it because it's a lot of fun, but after they use it, they find that it's simply a better way to get around," says Starr. "And with the introduction of our ZAPPY Jr., ZAPPYs are for everyone! -- Kids can use them as a toy; students can take them to school and store them in a locker or closet; commuters can take their ZAPPY on the bus or train; or they can be a fun auxiliary vehicles for your car, boat, RV, or airplane." In November, ZAP unveiled a toy electric scooter modeled after the ZAPPY called ZAPPY Jr. With a top-speed of 8 MPH, a hand brake, and a molded plastic body, ZAPPY Jr. is specifically designed to be a toy for kids, not for adults. With the popularity of both the ZAPPY and non-motorized KICK(TM) scooters, ZAP is convinced there would be a strong demand for a toy version of the scooter. Starr says electric scooters will be one of the hot holiday gifts this season and to help boost its holiday orders, ZAP is currently offering a free KICK non motorized inline scooter with the purchase of any ZAPPY or ZAPPY Jr. order.
