Infiniti Announces Voluntary Recall of Certain 2000 and 2001 QX4 Luxury Sport Utility Vehicles- Approximately 9,200 vehicles involved - GARDENA, Calif., Dec. 8 Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan North America, Inc., announced today a voluntary safety recall campaign on certain 2000 and 2001 model year QX4 sport utility vehicles manufactured from October 1, 1999 to March 22, 2000. Approximately 9,200 vehicles are involved in the campaign. On some QX4 vehicles manufactured during this period, the ignition lock cylinder cap could come loose and eventually cause the steering wheel lock to engage preventing the driver from turning the steering wheel. No accidents have occurred due to this malfunction. To repair this condition at no cost to the customer, Infiniti retailers will inspect and replace ignition lock assemblies on affected vehicles with loose or missing end cap connector pins and a ring clip will be installed on all other affected vehicles to prevent loosening of the pins. Infiniti has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of this recall and will begin contacting the owners of these vehicles immediately to request that they schedule appointments with Infiniti retailers to have their vehicle repaired. A free service loan car may be arranged if the customer requires alternate transportation. Owners of affected vehicles can call 877-873-2255 with any questions. This safety recall does not apply to the Nissan Pathfinder. Infiniti is committed to a high level of customer service and is working with its retailers to address this condition for QX4 customers.
