8 December 2000

Dana Corporation and Buehler Motor Form Strategic Alliance to Develop Advanced Motors and Controls
TOLEDO, Ohio and CARY, N.C., Dec. 7 Dana Corporation
and Buehler Motor Inc. announced today that they have formed a
product development and supply agreement to provide advanced automotive motor-
module technologies and manufacturing expertise to support under-the-hood and
under-the-vehicle applications.
Through this alliance, Dana's Motors and Controls Division and Buehler
Motor Inc. will jointly develop and provide components for integrated controls
with motor-driven actuation.
Buehler Motor will complement Dana Motors and Controls Division's already
existing switched-reluctance and DC motor and control technology with expanded
DC motor capabilities, along with expertise in miniature precision gear
assemblies and high-volume manufacture. In return, Dana Motors and Controls
will provide Buehler Motor with the ability to leverage Dana's presence in
passenger car, light truck, and heavy truck segments, along with key customer
contacts and low-cost manufacturing.
The companies currently have identified three near-term market
opportunities and will focus their combined activities on these and future
targeted sub-system and module applications that fit both companies' motor-
module competencies.
"This alliance is part of our long-term strategy to further develop our
electronic operations," said Phil Weis, vice president and general manager of
Dana's Motors and Controls Division. "We are excited about this development
agreement with Buehler Motor to offer innovative motor and control design and
development solutions to strengthen Dana's electronic product offering."
"Buehler Motor is proud to partner with Dana Motors and Controls
Division," said Ray Welterlin, vice president and general manager of Buehler
Motor NA Motors and Gear Motors Division. "We believe that this collaboration
will result in expert systems and be of ultimate benefit to our customers."
