Pep Boys Signs Contract With NEXCOM

    Business Editors/Automotive Writers

PHILADELPHIA--Dec 7, 2000--Pep Boys , the nation's leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, has signed a two-year contract with the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) to supply auto parts to Navy Exchanges in Europe.
This is the first time NEXCOM has signed a contract for automotive parts with a nationally recognized company.
To make ordering automotive parts quicker and easier, Pep Boys has installed new computer terminals at each Navy Exchange European store. Once ordered, parts are shipped from Pep Boys' warehouse in Chester, New York. Deliveries to the Navy Exchange normally take seven days, but can be expedited for next day.
"It's great to have a relationship with a company our customers know and trust," said Larry Boone, automotive services manager for NEXCOM. "We're excited about this partnership and how we can work together to bring quality automotive parts to our customers in Europe."
"Partnering with NEXCOM is a terrific opportunity for Pep Boys," said Al Ritter, manager of bulk sales for Pep Boys. "Not only does it allow us to grow revenue, but also it brings us closer to the hard working men and women in our armed forces by assisting them with their auto parts needs at a reasonable price."
Pep Boys has 627 stores and nearly 6,500 service bays in 36 states and Puerto Rico. Along with its vehicle repair and maintenance capabilities, the company also serves the commercial auto parts delivery market and is one of the leading sellers of replacement tires in the United States. Customers can find the nearest location by calling 800/PEP-BOYS or by visiting pepboys.com.
