"Consolidation in the rail industry in North America has created intense
competition for fewer customers," said Vinod Dasari, president - Rail
Business. "Reduced markets for products and changes in maintenance practices
in the industry have impacted our volume. This closing will continue the
company's rationalization of operations and will position us to better meet
market conditions and customer needs."
Timken's global rail business is a leader in providing original equipment
and replacement bearings as well as bearing refurbishment for passenger and
freight systems around the world.
The Little Rock plant employs 14 people. The plant is expected to close
by the end of January.
