Simula's ITS Technology to Appear in Freightliner Trucks

PHOENIX--Dec. 5, 2000--Simula Inc. (Amex:SMU) today confirmed that Freightliner Trucks, a division of Freightliner LLC, North America's leading manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks, will offer a Tubular Side Airbag System utilizing Simula's Inflatable Tubular Structure (ITS(R)).
The system represents a joint development effort of Simula and IMMI, an Indiana-based safety company with which Simula has partnered.
"This application grew out of a strategy aimed at establishing partnerships with first-tier OEM suppliers in order to expand marketing opportunities by cross selling the company's technologies into different markets and different applications," said Brad Forst, president and CEO of Simula Inc. "The ITS was introduced to the automobile industry in 1997.
"This represents the first introduction of side impact head protection systems in the heavy truck market. Freightliner LLC is an acknowledged leader among truck manufacturers, and we are delighted that they have chosen to utilize our ITS technology in their system."
The system, the first of its kind to be available in large Class 8 trucks, will initially be offered in Freightliner's top-of-the-line Century Class S/T and Argosy models. It will be supplied by IMMI, a leading supplier of occupant restraint systems for trucks and commercial vehicles in North America.
