Commerce One and NetVendor Form Strategic Alliance to Connect Suppliers to E-Marketplaces
PLEASANTON, Calif. & ATLANTA--Dec. 4, 2000Joint Efforts for Supplier Adoption to Target Automotive,
Electronics and Aerospace E-Marketplaces
Commerce One, Inc., the leader in global e-commerce solutions for business , and NetVendor, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) supplier enablement, today announced an alliance aimed at connecting suppliers to e-marketplaces. As a result, Commerce One has named NetVendor as a strategic, tier-one, sell-side independent software vendor (ISV) focused on direct material solutions, and both companies plan to cultivate joint marketing and sales opportunities. In addition, Commerce One Ventures will make an investment in NetVendor, underscoring Commerce One's commitment to the alliance.
Commerce One and NetVendor plan to develop strategies that primarily focus on automotive, electronics, aerospace, and industrial e-marketplaces, where NetVendor's supplier enablement technology is in broad use as a sell-side solution. NetVendor's technology addresses the distinctive business requirements of manufacturers with both broad and custom product offerings, as well as multiple sales and distribution channels, by offering unique functionality, such as complex configuration and design capabilities.
"We believe the future of business-to-business commerce is e-marketplaces," said Mark Hoffman, chairman and CEO of Commerce One. "We expect that NetVendor's solutions coupled with Commerce One's e-marketplace infrastructure, will drive supplier participation and provide a faster path to liquidity. By making an investment in a company like NetVendor, we are demonstrating our overall commitment to accelerating B2B e-commerce. We anticipate this relationship will reduce time to market for delivering complete buy- and sell-side offerings to these key industries."
It is expected that NetVendor will provide real-time interface to Commerce One e-marketplace solutions and the Global Trading Web(TM), the world's largest business-to-business trading community with members across 54 countries on six continents. As part of the joint initiative, plans are underway to expand the interface capabilities to include Commerce One e-procurement and supplier solutions. Integrating NetVendor solutions with a Commerce One supplier interface will enable suppliers to maintain brand autonomy while offering value-added services, such as real-time pricing, availability and order status, as well as configure- and design-to-order capabilities, through an e-marketplace.
"The new initiative and investment reflect the increased market appetite for coupling buy-side and sell-side solutions," said Sean McCloskey, president and CEO, NetVendor. "It's an important milestone for NetVendor that Commerce One has expanded its agreement with us and made a significant investment in our company."
