Johnson Controls Honors Top Suppliers with Its 2000 Performance Awards
Company recognizes the exemplary
contributions of its supply base

    PLYMOUTH, Mich., Dec. 1 To recognize the outstanding
performance of its supply base, Johnson Controls presented 22
suppliers with the company's distinguished 2000 Supplier Performance Awards.
The awards dinner was held yesterday in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the Amway
Grand Hotel.
    "Our supply base is an integral part of our process to develop and deliver
world-class innovative products," said Larry Alles, vice president and general
manager of worldwide purchasing for Johnson Controls. "Our suppliers' hard
work and dedication have helped to position Johnson Controls as a leader
within the automotive industry."
    According to Alles, Johnson Controls has received a number of awards --
such as The Michigan Minority Business Development Council's 2000 Corporation
of the Year Award, 2000 General Motors Supplier of the Year Award and Industry
Week Magazine's 100 Best-Managed Companies Award -- that are the result of the
performance of the entire Johnson Controls organization, including its
suppliers in the value chain.
    Johnson Controls' Supplier Performance Awards are presented annually
for supplier accomplishments. Exemplary supplier performance is recognized on
three levels -- gold, silver and bronze. Performance is measured in four key
areas -- quality; commercial; material and logistics; and service and
engineering support.

    Recipients of the Gold 2000 Supplier Performance Award were:

    In addition, the recipient of this year's Johnson Controls Community
Partnership Award -- which recognizes the organization that has partnered most
often with Johnson Controls in serving and supporting the community around
them -- is Sterling Heights, Michigan-based Becker Group. Johnson Controls
actively participates and supports the communities in which it operates
facilities.
    In recognition of its commitment to exceeding expectations in minority
business development, Packaging Concepts and Design of Madison Heights,
Michigan received the Minority Business Development Leadership Award. Johnson
Controls has targeted minority business development as a key component of its
strategic business plan. Johnson Controls develops and supports new
partnerships with minority firms and promotes minority development efforts
throughout the supply chain.
    Philips Components of Farmington Hills, Michigan was the 2000 recipient of
The Innovation Leadership Award for partnering with Johnson Controls to bring
product innovations to consumers.
    "At Johnson Controls, we feel it is important to recognize our suppliers
that demonstrate exceptional performance in the areas of quality, commercial,
material and logistics, and service and engineering support," Alles said.
"With the increase in the number of recipients compared to last year, it is
obvious that more of our suppliers are taking their performance levels
seriously."
    The Plymouth, Michigan (U.S.A.)-based automotive business of Johnson
Controls -- which employs more than 77,000 people at 285 facilities worldwide
-- achieved US$12.7 billion in sales for the 2000 fiscal year. In model-year
2001, it will supply interior products for more than 23 million vehicles.
