Volkswagen Sales Up 8.7 Percent in November - Best November Since 1973 - Records for Passat and JettaAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 1 Amid a U.S. car market that is easing off its record pace, Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported its best November sales in 27 years. In November, Volkswagen sold 26,597, representing an 8.7 percent increase over last year's mark of 24,469. For the year, Volkswagen has sold 328,614 new cars in the U.S., which represents a 12.7 percent increase over 1999's eleven-month total of 291,660. This means that during November and with one month left in the sales year, Volkswagen has already surpassed its total 1999 sales of 315,563. Volkswagen's top-selling Jetta model established a new November mark with sales of 11,517, up 18 percent from last year's 9,757. The Passat also enjoyed a record for the month at 6,101, an increase of 7.9 percent over November 1999's 5,654. Golf sales last month were 2,430, up 93.5 percent from 1999 when they were 1,256. New Beetle sales were 5,716 compared to last year's mark of 6,922. Volkswagen continues to be America's best-selling European car brand.
