Delphi Automotive Responding Rapidly to Customer Production Schedule Reductions - Layoff Advisory
    TROY, Mich., Dec. 1 During the next three weeks, Delphi
officials will notify more than 1,700 hourly employees at Michigan, New York
and Ohio facilities they will be placed on temporary layoff in response to
reduced customer schedules.
    "Delphi is moving quickly to adjust production to meet customer demand,"
said J.T. Battenberg III, Delphi chairman, CEO and president.  "Overall
customer schedules in the automotive industry are softening, and we are taking
steps to prepare our company for reduced volumes and intensified economic and
competitive pressure in the coming months.  We continue to closely monitor
customer schedules."
    Employee notification will occur during the week prior to the layoff.
