Providata Automotive Heads Special Trade Advisory Delegation To the Republic of Korea
    ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 29 Providata Automotive, the
automotive industry's leading management consulting and market intelligence
firm, announced the completion of a recent special advisory trade mission to
the Republic of Korea. At the invitation of the Korean Trade-Investment
Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Scott D. Upham, president of Providata Automotive,
spoke to over 250 supplier executives in South Korea concerning North American
automotive market entry strategies and regional business practices.
    KOTRA, a government agency of the Republic of Korea, assists Korean
companies with overseas expansion, corporate planning and economic
development. KOTRA has over 110 offices around the world.
    This trade mission was conducted November 14-16, 2000 and included
supplier conferences and workshops in the South Korean cities of Seoul, Inchon
and Pusan. These conferences and workshops focused on strategies for entering
the North American automotive market and how to do business with General
Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG.
    "The recent announcement of Hyundai/Kia's new North American production
facility has spurred many suppliers to intensify their North American market
entry efforts," Upham said.
    Valued globally as a premier automotive consulting firm, Providata
Automotive was asked to assist these suppliers in gaining a foothold within
this new market. "Korean supplier companies are eager to expand globally and
the recent global sourcing trends at Ford, GM and DaimlerChrysler are making
it easier for non-U.S. companies to obtain new auto parts contracts. We are
helping them make this transition," Upham said.
    To assist the development of automotive supplier strategies, Providata
Automotive completed a detailed market strategy report on the North American
market structure, industry-sourcing trends and market entry strategies for
small/medium sized suppliers.

    Also included in this consultation report:

    * North American OEM/Supplier Market Analysis
    * North American Automotive Supplier Structure
    *  North American Market/Economic Factors
    *  Supply Chain Structure (OEM, Tier 1, 2 & 3 Suppliers)
    *  Supply Chain Management Trends
    * Automotive Supply Industry Barriers to Entry
    * Major Customer Requirements on Suppliers
    * Engineering Practices at North American Manufacturers
    * Purchasing Practices at North American Manufacturers
    * Growing Demands Placed on Tier 1 Suppliers
    *  Emerging Component Technologies
    *  North American Regulatory Trends

    Providata Automotive also provided its highly-valued analysis on corporate
location trends, corporate alliance strategies and ways to implement
competitive intelligence practices into corporate strategic planning
processes. "We are continuing to advise Korean suppliers on new trends in OEM
B2B E-commerce, developments with the new Covisint exchange and how to build
North American-oriented corporate web-sites," Upham said.
