Valeo Implements Global Web Catalog Solution with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Commerce One

PARIS--Nov. 29, 2000--Valeo (Paris: FR; OTC: VLEEY) announces e@SI (e-procurement at Supplier Integration), a project designed to enhance purchasing and procurement performance and supplier integration using the Internet.
The project, initially launched in April, covers four solutions: Web Catalog, e-negotiation, SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) and Purchasing Knowledge Management. The Web Catalog solution is aimed at improving Valeo's purchasing and procurement process for indirect goods and services, using Internet based solutions.
The Web Catalog solution is currently operational with 2,000 end-users at 30 sites, including several that only recently became part of the Valeo Group. Fifty sites will be live by the end of 2000 in the United States, Mexico, France, Germany and Spain. Valeo's target is to complete the implementation by July 2001 with 8,000 end-users, 80 catalogs and 120 sites. It was deployed in record time at Valeo's Dijon (France) site - in just three days.
Web Catalogs will enable all Valeo buyers to share and use the same product/service catalogs pre-negotiated at Group level with supplier partners, thus improving processes and cutting direct and indirect costs. For suppliers, the implementation of the framework contracts signed with Valeo will be greatly facilitated. As a result Valeo will be able to considerably reduce the number of suppliers of goods and services that can be catalogued and focus only on the best.
PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Services (PwC), is the integration partner for the implementation of the solution. Valeo selected PwC because of its leadership position in the implementation of e-business solutions, its experience and skill, particularly in Web catalogs, and its ability to rapidly implement the solution which was successfully tested during a pilot phase.
Commerce One, the provider of the solution, was selected as it is a market leader in global business-to-business e-commerce solutions as well as on its ability to provide access to market places equipped with its solutions.
Christine Benard, Valeo's VP, Purchasing, commented, "Working in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Services and Commerce One, we were able to implement a rapid deployment plan and immediately achieve the benefits expected from the framework contracts with suppliers and an improvement in the purchasing process."
Valeo is an independent industrial Group fully focused on the design, production and sale of components, integrated systems and modules for cars and trucks, and ranks among the world's top automotive suppliers. The Group has 167 plants, 41 R&D centers, 10 distribution centers and employs 75,000 people in 25 countries worldwide.
