ADVISORY/Atlantic City Police Get New Wheels

    --

WHAT: The Atlantic City Police Department will take delivery of a new
fleet of police motorcycles, equipped with advanced safety
features. Fifteen BMW R 1100 RT-P police motorcycles will replace
several older-model Harley Davidson motorcycles currently in the
Department's fleet of patrol vehicles. The BMW motorcycles are
the only authority bikes to offer an anti-lock brake system,
which is essential to officer safety in emergency braking
situations. The BMW R 1100 RT-P motorcycles, purchased from Cross
Country BMW of Metuchen, will be used to patrol the famed
Boardwalk and streets of Atlantic City, to provide escort support
for visiting dignitaries, and to lead city parades, including the
Miss America parade. The Atlantic City Police Department has a
specially trained 14-member motorcycle squad that rides
     year-round in 12-hour posts.
