ADVISORY/Atlantic City Police Get New Wheels
--WHAT: The Atlantic City Police Department will take delivery of a new fleet of police motorcycles, equipped with advanced safety features. Fifteen BMW R 1100 RT-P police motorcycles will replace several older-model Harley Davidson motorcycles currently in the Department's fleet of patrol vehicles. The BMW motorcycles are the only authority bikes to offer an anti-lock brake system, which is essential to officer safety in emergency braking situations. The BMW R 1100 RT-P motorcycles, purchased from Cross Country BMW of Metuchen, will be used to patrol the famed Boardwalk and streets of Atlantic City, to provide escort support for visiting dignitaries, and to lead city parades, including the Miss America parade. The Atlantic City Police Department has a specially trained 14-member motorcycle squad that rides year-round in 12-hour posts. Make right at third traffic light onto Atlantic Avenue.) **PHOTO OPPORTUNITY** Atlantic City Police Chief Arthur Snellbaker and members of the Atlantic City Police Department will accept the new fleet of police motorcycles from BMW representatives in front of the Atlantic City Public Safety Building. The group will ride several blocks down Atlantic Ave. to the large Atlantic City sign and to the boardwalk for photos.
