BorgWarner's CEO John Fiedler talks to The Wall Street Transcript

NEW YORK--Nov. 28, 2000--The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with John Fiedler, CEO of BorgWarner , in which he talks at length about the company's future.
The entire 1,600-word interview is available free online at http://www.twst.com/ceos.htm
Fiedler gives an overview of the company. "You might describe us as a powertrain powerhouse. Overall, our focus is powertrain products, components and systems that are highly engineered. About half of our business relates to managing engines for better performance and fuel economy. Our engine products are engine timing systems, turbochargers, emission controls and cooling systems. The other 50% of the company is divided between transmission systems, primarily for automatic transmissions, in which we are the global leader, and four-wheel drive systems, in which we are also a global leader."
Fiedler explains, "No independent supplier knows more about powertrain management than BorgWarner. We have strong market leadership, a global presence and great technology. We're number one or number two in every one of our marketplaces. We are number one in shift-quality products for automatic transmissions around the world, number two in turbochargers, and number one in engine timing systems, just to give you an idea. We are also the largest independent maker of four-wheel drive systems. Globally, about 20% of our business is in Europe and 14% to 15% in Asia. That's quite large for an American-based auto supplier. These markets are growing even faster than our North American marketplace."
Looking forward, Fiedler states, "Our goal is to take BorgWarner to over $4 billion in sales by 2004, which is double the size of the company. Importantly, 75% of that growth is expected to come internally."
